Job description

The European Commission is currently looking for a System Administrator for its office in Brussels (DG Emploi). 

Daily Tasks

  • Maintains/upgrades the software development and the software test infrastructure
  • Performs system administration and database administration tasks
  • Provides support to Member States during installation and configuration of Test, Acceptance  and Production environments but also during operational phase
  • Performs incident analysis and resolution: preliminary diagnosis of software/infrastructure issue, troubleshooting and than further escalation in coordination with the Test Team/Development Team but also with the central IT department and with 3rd party maintenance partners (depending on the area of the reported issue)
  • Advises the IT management in areas such as capacity management, contingency planning, IT service continuity management, automation of repetitive tasks, information security
  • Performs administration and troubleshooting of applications in the supervised environments (including usage/performance monitoring)
  • Elaborates and maintains the deployment diagrams and specifications for the systems within area of responsibility
  • Documents and maintains the procedures related to deployment of information systems within area of responsibility but also related to administration manuals or troubleshooting (updating manuals, published guides etc)
  • Involved in creating and updating the needed training materials for external audience

  

Your skills

Required Skills & Competences

  • Strong experience in system administration of Microsoft Windows Server (2008-2016) and Linux (Ubuntu, RedHat etc) environments
  • Strong experience in databases administration (PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle etc)
  • Strong experience with open-source technologies (Apache/Apache Tomcat, Java script, Bonita,  Elastic search etc)
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Azure portal
  • Strong experience of working in support teams, in direct contact with external customers (in an international/multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment)
  • Strong knowledge of PKI
  • Strong knowledge of high availability technologies (especially Microsoft clustering)
  • Excellent knowledge in Power Shell
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft BizTalk and Microsoft IIS
  • Good knowledge of virtualisation technologies (HyperV / VMware / ESXi etc)
  • Good knowledge/understanding of proxy servers and appliances
  • Good knowledge of software deployment tools/management
  • Good knowledge of software/Hardware monitoring solutions and of Service/Help Desk ticketing systems
