Java Developer Medior

Job description

The candidate will work at the European Commission in a department responsible of creating and maintaining transversal IT systems which assist the directorate in carrying out its tasks. 

The methodology used for development is based on Agile & RUP. The technical environment is based on Oracle, Weblogic and ColdFusion. Internet Explorer 11 (or higher), Firefox and Chrome are the supported web browsers. TOAD or SQL Developer are used as development utility for Oracle. Eclipse is used as Integrated Development Environment for Java and Coldfusion. All documents must be written in English using MS Word 2010 (or higher). 

Some of the tasks:

  • Development and maintenance of software applications
  • Development and integration of technological components
  • Implementation of user requirements
  • Prototyping
  • Elaboration of test programs
  • Integration with other applications
  • Writing of technical documentation
  • Assistance with deployment and configuration of the system
  • Participation in meetings with the project teams
  • Participation in user support activity

Your skills

Minimum requirements:

  • Master degree or equivalent by experience
  • Minimum a total of 6 years of experience with one or more of the following in a professional context: development tools / environments / languages (e.g. Java, (PL)/SQL, Maven)
  • In depth knowledge of application development environments
  • Very good knowledge of the design and development of web and multi- 
tier applications. Good knowledge of Oracle RDBMS 

  • Very good knowledge of Java, Spring, Spring MVC, jQuery, Hibernate
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g. RUP, AGILE)
  • Ability to cope with fast changing technologies used in application developments
  • Good communication skills English

Nice to have:

  • Ability to participate in multilingual meetings
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Ability to work with a high degree of rigour and method and, more specifically, to follow naming conventions and coding standards
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural environment, on a large project
  • Experience with the integration and configuration of off-the-shelf products
  • Knowledge of French
